Title: divorce papers
I divorced approximately 16 years ago. I remarried 2 years later. Recently I went through breast cancer surgery and now doing chemo then radiation therapy. My question is, can I contact his lawyer and ask for a copy of the "paperwork to be sent to me? I remember the judges decision but I can't remember anything else that was on the documents. The reason I want the divorce papers is so that I can ask for half of his canada pension. And anything else I would be financially entitled to. Am I or do I have rights to ask for the copies and the benefits? I am exhausting my U.I. benefits and will need to apply for disability pension to help provide for my new family

You are very welcome Lesley. My brother actually called me this Thanksgiving weekend. He's in Kentucky in the army and couldn't make it home this holiday season. We got to talking and a few weeks prior, I sent him the www.divorce4her.com/testimonies.html link. He was soooo happy, when he called on Thanksgiving he told me he gave thanks for the link I sent him because he had begun his divorce through them just days earlier. GL and keep us posted.

Thanks for all the information. I am contemplating my divorce and it sounds fairly complicated. However, I did talk to some other divorcee's that have used the do it yourself service. I have heard only good things and I'm really thinking about going that route. I don't have time to be bothered with the high priced lawyers and all of the ins and outs of court. I run a busy business and if I'm not there I'm spending time with my kids. Thanks for the www.divorce4her.com/testimonies.html link. I've passed it on to several.

My mom was in a similar situation and she had to go through a whole lot. She called her courthouse first and foremost and then they lead her in the direction she needed. I suggest following everyones advice and call your local courthouse. GL.

You might want to call your local county court house or I should say the court house in which your divorce was finalized. You must remember, you were divorced 14 years ago. That's hard. I know you have seen rough times and can definitely understand depleting your funds, but I really don't know that they would open that case after 14 years. You maybe able to get the paperwork which might be archived but not sure it will do you any good at this point.

You have been divorced for 16 years, remarried for 14 years and now you want to go back and try to get some of your ex's pension? Now I have heard everything.

I am sorry you are apparently going through some tough times now, but how is that any concern of your ex-husband (who you divorced 16 long years ago)?

I think you should be able to ask for the copies
